Grafted plants fruit years sooner

A fruit plant grown from seed can take six to ten years to fruit, and the fruit rarely matches the parent tree. Mango, guava, citrus (kinnow, lemon, malta), chikoo, jamun, falsa, pomegranate, fig, loquat and date palm all grow well across Punjab and Sindh. In cooler northern areas apple, peach, plum, apricot and persimmon perform better.

How long until a fruit plant starts bearing fruit?

Grafted fruit plants fruit far sooner than seedlings — citrus and guava usually within 2–3 years, mango within 3–4 years, and chikoo and jamun within 4–5 years. Our mature grafted specimens can fruit in the first or second season after planting.
